We are continuing our face mapping journey and next up is the stomach. In Chinese medicine, the two main sources of energy come from the air we breathe and the food we eat. Our lungs and stomach are important to keep healthy if we are to have the maximum energy level possible. Stomach imbalances can manifest symptoms in several different ways. For instance, my son has a sensitivity to wheat, rice and eggs. The only symptom he had was an awful stuffy nose. He tested negative for any food allergies but when I tested him for food sensitivity and he tested positive, his symptoms immediately went away once we removed the irritating foods.
Symptoms
Here are some signs that you may be experiencing digestive issues:
- blemishes around the stomach area of the face (see pic above)
- acid reflux
- nausea &/or vomiting
- bloating
- stomach pain
- intestinal inflammation (Chrohn's, Colitis)
- sinus inflammation
- irritable bowel syndrome
- constipation
- diarrhea
- weight gain
- diabetes
- gout
Diet
I use acupuncture, herbs and dietary modifications to help people heal their guts. Just dietary changes can be a huge benefit though, along with the right supplements. Here are some foods TCM recommends for stomach imbalances.
- Grains: oats, rice, millet, barley
- Vegetables: sweet potato, yam, zucchini, squash, string beans, beets, mushrooms (shitake preferably)
- Fruit: cherries, dates, figs, grapes, longan, melons
- Bean products: tofu, adzuki beans, mung beans
- Meat: beef (grass fed is best), chicken, goose, lamb
- Herbs spices: licorice, ginger
- Seafood: mackerel, sardines, oysters, mussels, clams, string beans, cuttlefish, squid, kelp, spirulina
- Oils/condiments: olive oils, flaxseed oil, almond oil
Try to avoid hot & spicy foods like chili, cinnamon, garlic, onions, shallots, leeks, wasabi, coffee, vinegar, pickles, citrus fruits, cigarettes, and alcohol.
