3 Easy Ways to Lower Cortisol in the New Year

How can we improve our health in the new year?  One way is to focus on lowering our cortisol levels. Cortisol, also known as the aging hormone, can wreak havoc on our systems.  Too much cortisol can be the cause of weight gain, belly fat, high blood sugar, high blood pressure, adrenal fatigue, and even depression.

Stress is often the major cause of too much cortisol in our bodies.  As stress builds, our adrenal glands release cortisol.  When we lower our stress levels, we lower cortisol levels in our bodies.  Here are 3 easy ways to help reduce cortisol.

Move More

I know you’ve heard this before but even my mom, who is 75, goes to L.A. Fitness everyday of the week to exercise!  According to livestrong.com, just 20 to 30 minutes of aerobic exercise a day can lower your cortisol levels!  So walk, hop, jump, skip, do burpies, just move more!!!

Sleep Deep

Magically, our cortisol levels naturally drop when we are asleep!  Seven to nine hours of sleep each night is what we need to lower our cortisol levels.  But if you’re waking up frequently during the night, your cortisol levels are going up.  Try taking IN:DREAM to help you fall asleep easier and stay asleep deeper.

Yoga

Even 8 minutes of Yoga, which helps with breathing and stretching our bodies, will help with relaxation.  Simple poses, like downward dog and warrior 1, will help to lower cortisol levels.  If you have trouble relaxing enough to do yoga, try taking an IN:PEACE.  The 9 stress relieving herbs will get you in the mood to stretch and do some meditative movement.

Wishing you a peaceful start to the new year!!

Be Well!
